Lafayette Township Spring & Summer Updates

A Community Effort to Keep Our Roads Safe, Clear, and Maintained

As the weather warms, our focus shifts to infrastructure improvements and managing the vibrant growth of the season. Please review these essential guidelines to help keep our Township running smoothly.

🚧 Road Resurfacing & Projects

Our Service Department will be hard at work this season on several road improvement and resurfacing projects.

  • Expect Delays: Please anticipate temporary road closures and traffic delays as we work to maintain our infrastructure.
  • Stay Informed: We appreciate your patience as we complete these necessary upgrades. Plan your routes accordingly during high-activity periods.
  • Safety First: When driving through active work zones, please stay alert and follow all flagger instructions to keep our crews safe.

đźš— Slow Down & Stay Safe

With more residents walking, biking, and playing outdoors, we want to remind everyone to be mindful of their speed.

  • Watch Your Speed: Please strictly adhere to posted speed limits throughout the Township.
  • Safety in the Right-of-Way: Speeding is especially dangerous in residential areas where children and pets may be near the road edge.

🌳 Vegetation & Driveway Visibility

Safety starts at the end of your driveway. Overgrown vegetation can create "blind spots" for you and your neighbors.

  • Clear Sightlines: Please prune any trees, shrubs, or tall ornamental grasses located near the entrance of your driveway.
  • The Goal: Drivers must have a clear, unobstructed view of oncoming traffic and pedestrians before pulling out into the roadway.
  • Right-of-Way: All street trees should be trimmed year-round. Ensure branches do not overhang the street at low heights, as they can strike high-profile vehicles like school buses or emergency trucks.

đź’§ Drainage & Ditch Maintenance

Spring showers bring heavy runoff. To prevent localized flooding and protect our roads:

  • No Clippings in Streets: Please do not blow grass clippings or leaves into the street. They clog storm drains and create slick, hazardous conditions for motorcycles and bicycles.
  • Keep Ditches Clear: Ensure any drainage ditches or curb areas on your property are free of debris and fallen branches.

🏡 Property & Infrastructure Care

  • Hydrant Visibility: Ensure that spring landscaping—such as tall grasses, shrubs, or flowers—does not obscure fire hydrants. They must be clearly visible from the road so the Fire Department can locate them instantly in an emergency.
  • Mailbox Check: Now is the perfect time to inspect your mailbox post. If it was nudged during the winter or shows signs of "post rot" from wet soil, please ensure it is sturdy. A post set at the correct height (41” to 45” from the road surface) is your best defense against future damage.
  • Yard Waste Disposal: When cleaning up garden beds or trimming trees, please remember that property owners are responsible for the disposal of their own yard waste, including branches, brush, and clippings.
  • Keep Roads Clear: To maintain safety and curb appeal, please do not stack debris, branches, or bags of waste on the roadway or within the right-of-way while awaiting your personal disposal.
